In our School of Asia 21 and Graduate School of Globalising Asia, students can enroll in the spring or fall semester, which is in April or September. For other faculties and graduate schools, students can enroll only in the spring semester, starting from April.

No, we don’t have a special program for the Japanese language study.

Please contact International Center (intlrel@kokushikan.ac.jp)for details of the exchange programs.

The overall school expense varies between courses. The cost for the first year is from 1.2 to 1.5 million yen and payment can be arranged twice a year. It is not available to international students.

If other conditions are fulfilled, you can take the entrance examination for the international student. However, it is required to have student visa after enrollment in the graduate schools.

You can take the entrance examination at Kokushikan University campus except for the School of Asia 21’s overseas admission. Please contact the School of Asia 21 for application details.

In order to transfer to Kokushikan University, you must have a degree of an overseas university ,a junior college, or an equivalent school education (over 14 years). Please refer to the application guidebook. Also please contact your homeland university regarding their rules.

There are transfer systems into the second year and the third year. If you are a
university or a junior college graduate, and finished 14-year school education, you are qualified to apply the entrance examination with necessary credits admitted. Please inquire at Office (Japanese only) for more detail.

The condition for the graduate program application requires 16-year school education. When you are admitted by the credential committee, you can apply. Please contact Graduate School office .

Please fill in the admission office's online request form (Japanese only) for information. Generally the application forms are distributed from early September every year.

The Kokushikan University offers two examinations for international students. One is held in November and applications are accepted early October. The other is in February and applications are accepted early January. Please read the brochure /application form for more details. You are required to bring in your application form in person to the University. We do not accept mailed application forms. The term for application differs depending on the entrance examination system, and it’s from September to February. You are qualified to apply if you finished 16-year school education or expected to finish before enrollment. Some graduate schools need N1. Regarding the research student, please contact the Graduate School office directly.

Guarantor is not required when applying, but is required at the time of admission procedure. Guarantor should be a parent or quasi parent. Guarantor does not have to be living in Japan.

Yes, it is necessary to submit the related documents at the time of application.

Graduate School requires to have student visa after enrollment, but for undergraduate, to have student visa is not the condition for enrollment. But it is the condition to have student visa for scholarship application. Please contact the International Center (intlrel@kokushikan.ac.jp)for more information.

No, we don’t operate this system. International Students go to the Immigration Office for each application by themselves. You can ask about the procedure at the International Center(intlrel@kokushikan.ac.jp).

Private apartments usually cost about 60,000 yen around the Setagaya campus area, and about 40,000 yen around the Machida/ Tama campuses. The University's Student Welfare Office will support students to find apartments.

Students with college student visa may work up to 28 hours per week, and within 8 hours a day during the university’s long vacation with a permit from the Immigration. Types of work permitted are restricted. Please take extreme caution regarding this matter, since in case of any violation of these restrictions, you may not be allowed to continue your study in Japan. The Student Welfare Office occasionally posts some jobs on the bulletin; however, many international students tend to find jobs through free papers, web pages and their friends.

It is possible to take a leave of absence from the university with the cost of \20,000. If student visa expires during the military service, you have to take the procedure to get a student visa again after your application for reinstatement has approved. When you go into military service after withdrawal from the university, you can be readmitted from the university. Please inquire the office you belong for detail. Also, you can ask International Center(intlrel@kokushikan.ac.jp) for help regarding visa matter.

Fist of all, please come and talk to International Center. International Student Advisors will help you find a solution. Also each campus has a Student Counseling Room. The University Clinic will be in charge of your health problems. For academic issues, you can consult with the professors in their office hour. Moreover, the International Center introduces external support organizations (Japanese only) upon your request.
